Life Outside the Courtroom

I’m a proud husband to my wife, Tiffany, a former victim’s advocate for the County Attorney’s Office and Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. Together we raise three children who all attend McCracken County public schools and are involved in sports and church. I’m an associate professor of criminal justice at WKCTC where I help train the next generation of law enforcement. On the weekends, you can usually find us at the ball fields or tennis courts watching our children play. I’m an active Rotarian and avid boxing fan. I enjoy reading, song writing, drawing, and visiting friends.

— From Judge James Mills

No man is above the law and no man is below it: nor do we ask any man’s permission when we ask him to obey it.

Four things belong to a judge: To hear courteously; to answer wisely; to consider soberly; and to decide impartially.

My Record

Selecting your district judge is a crucial decision. You want someone who understands the community, cares about every resident and has the experience and the integrity to make not only good decisions, but the right decisions. But most importantly, you want a judge who know the court system and will prioritize public safety.

I have nearly 20 years of experience in the McCracken County court system as a civil attorney and both a prosecutor and a defense attorney. Prior to becoming District Judge, I was the lead prosecutor for most violent felonies.

I’ve secured more than 250 years prison time for sex offenders. My trial experience includes homicide, DUI, sex crimes and drug offenses. I also administered deferred prosecution to help people get clean and clear up their criminal records. Additionally, I served on the drug court to help addicts maintain their sobriety.

When I was assistant county attorney, I prosecuted DUI and domestic violence cases. I also helped families facing mental health crisis and secured guardianship for at-risk loved ones. As a public defender I defended the accused’s constitutional rights.

As the seated District Judge, it is my job to uphold the law. I trust that the law keeps our community safe by holding offenders accountable and upholding the rights of victims. The law requires that every person before the Court be treated fairly and with dignity. McCracken County deserves a judge with a proven record, and real court room experience. You can trust me to keep our community safe and your rights protected.
